From manuscript to field tool, PhDesign enhances the "act-in-context" guide

At a time when poverty and vulnerability are making support more complex, social workers and decision-makers need practical, tried-and-tested tools that are easy to use.

At Caroline Adam's request, PhDesign Agency was commissioned to improve the figures of the "act-in-context" approach, as well as to improve and layout a guide adapted from her doctoral thesis. The aim of this project was to make the approach more accessible and understandable for practitioners and students alike. Its aim is to provide a better understanding of how contexts of poverty influence people's actions and reinforce their vulnerability. The document is intended as a practical guide to integrating this approach into social interventions, offering a concrete method that can be applied in the field.

Goals

The main aim of the project was to make the act-in-context approach more accessible, by simplifying understanding of the concepts while preserving the rigor of the research results. This was achieved through two main actions:

  • Improved figures To make the illustrations more visual and intuitive, to facilitate understanding of the approach.
  • Content revision: harmonize style, clarify terminology and restructure the order of ideas for greater coherence.
  • Layout of a popularized document Designing a clear, structured and attractive document for speakers and students.

The PhDesign team was able to capture the essence of my research and translate it into a leaflet that is both clear and visually appealing. Thanks to their ability to simplify complex ideas without distorting their meaning, the final result faithfully reflects the key messages I wanted to convey. Communication was smooth throughout the process, and I truly appreciated their attentiveness, creativity, and professionalism” says Caroline.

Information

Figure enhancement

The figures of the "Act-in-context" approach were reworked to enhance their clarity and visual impact. The aim was to make complex concepts more accessible through explicit, well-organized visuals, while respecting the scientific integrity of the content.

  • Redesign of diagrams to improve legibility and impact.
  • A clean palette highlighting the links between poverty, vulnerability and empowerment.
  • Iterative validation with the author to ensure scientific integrity.

Content review

In revising the content, we paid particular attention to clarity, coherence and fluidity. Long or redundant sentences have been lightened, ideas better articulated and terminology adjusted where necessary to refine the precision of concepts related to act-in-context and intervention dynamics. We took care to eliminate repetition, while inserting targeted comments to suggest clarifications or recommend cuts. The aim was to enhance the richness of the content, preserve its scientific rigor and ensure that it reads smoothly and is accessible to all target audiences.

Layout of the popularized document

The layout of the document was designed to make the content both readable and engaging. The document has been structured with clear headings and sub-headings, airy spaces and an effective visual hierarchy. This layout makes for easy reading, while seamlessly integrating the practical guide for practitioners.

Conclusion

This project has made the approach to act-in-context more accessible and understandable, thanks to improved figures and the careful layout of a summary document. PhDesign Agency ensured that the content was clear, attractive and engaging.
