Agence PhDesign develops the new BMO Sustainable Development Observatory website

When a new observatory is created, its first mission is not just to produce research: it's also to ensure that this research reaches beyond the walls of the university to those who make decisions on a day-to-day basis.

TheBMO Observatory on Sustainable Development Management, based at theUniversité de Sherbrooke's School of Management, has taken on the mandate of doing just that: mobilizing, transferring and disseminating knowledge to help organizations, businesses and government bodies move towards a sustainable and responsible economy.

What was needed was a digital platform to match this ambition.

Goals

Commissioned by Julie Frédette, Agence PhDesign designed a professional, modern and intuitive showcase site that reflects the Observatoire's mission: to help accelerate sustainable and responsible economic transition.

The main objective: to build an accessible platform that translates the Observatory's vision into a clear and engaging space, enabling :

  • Promoting sustainability management projects and publications;
  • Provide a distribution platform for infographics, capsules and white papers;
  • Equipping change agents with reliable, up-to-date content;
  • Facilitate autonomous site management by the in-house team through dedicated training.

Designing a site as a tool for change

Agence PhDesign designed the Observatoire website as more than just an institutional showcase. It was conceived as a working tool for a targeted audience: managers, entrepreneurs and decision-makers, well beyond the academic circle.

This is reflected in a number of strategic choices:

  • A clear editorial structure Our publications, infographics and white papers are presented not simply as resources, but as levers for action.
  • A sober, bilingual design Available in both French and English, the site aims for credibility with both local and international partners.
  • Total autonomy for the in-house team Thanks to training and video capsules, the Observatory can update its site without technical dependence, guaranteeing the tool's longevity.
  • Mission-aligned hosting The entire site is supported by Canadian servers powered by renewable energies.

A site that reflects a vision

The BMO Observatory does more than simply publish research results. Its vocation is to be a meeting point between academic knowledge and action in the field. The site has therefore been designed as a a place for digital dialoguewhere scientific expertise finds a language that can be understood and mobilized by those involved in change.

Conclusion

" Agence PhDesign delivered a website that we're already getting compliments on, and the project to create it, as well as the transmission of knowledge that will enable autonomous management of the website, was carried out with professionalism, open communication channels and transparency. I have no hesitation in recommending Agence PhDesign for your website design projects! "

- Julie Fredette, Coordinator, BMO Sustainability Management Observatory

The impact of Agence PhDesign

Our role has been to accompany this transition to digital with a critical eye:

  • How can we avoid the overly technical, inward-looking "university site" effect?
  • How to convey the idea that research is useful here and now ?
  • How do you give a fledgling institution immediate and lasting credibility?

The result is a professional, clear and lively website that serves the Observatory's mission and reinforces its legitimacy with the communities it seeks to mobilize.
